sprinting smarter, speed progression
A Complete Sprinting and Speed Development Program.
Progress doesn’t automatically come with hours on the track, reps in the weight room or even an unrelenting desire for success. Continued progress is the result of practicing the right things with the right timing, intensity and focus for each individual athlete. This course has been optimized around providing coaches and athletes with the latest tools and sprinting wisdom to address each of those areas to progress to an entirely new level of speed and performance.
Learning, developing and fine-tuning the technique, aka “practicing the right things.” Proper sprinting form is the foundation of speed. This is why Coach Harnden provides a complete head-to-toe breakdown of sprinting mechanics. You’ll learn the posture and body positions required to produce maximum acceleration and top-end speed. You’ll also learn more advanced concepts such as refining the phases of the sprint, low heel recovery, fine-tuning block setups and more.
Understanding and choosing the drills that will result in the biggest performance gains. There is no shortage of sprinting drills that coaches and athletes can include in their training. The challenge becomes selecting the right mix of drills that target the most important elements of sprinting and performing them correctly. The drills that have been chosen for this course have proven to produce the biggest performance gains and work systematically with the technical instruction and training routines.
Developing effective training routines. This is where it all comes together. Two-time Olympian Ken Harnden shares the philosophies and training plans that have led to 6 sub-10 100M runners, 25 NCAA champions and 14 Olympians. You’ll get everything you need to build an annual training plan that can be customized for each individual athlete.

From standing starts all the way down to the nuances of the drive phase.
Coach Harnden covers every essential element of great sprinting form in a logical and easy to follow progression. Starting with head, arm and torso positions and moving to foot strike and leg action. The acceleration progression guides athletes from rolling and static 2 point starts and continues to build to 3 point starts and eventually block starts. This sequencing ensures that the athlete is able to hit key positions prior to moving on to more complex movements. It also makes up the foundation that precedes many of the workouts in the training phases.
When it comes to learning technique, you simply have to see it in action. You’ll see every technical element in clear detail with easy to follow graphics and demonstrations from Olympians Warren Fraser and Cejhae Greene.

Planning is everything. Disorganized, random training will undoubtedly lead to random results. Over his 18 years of training elite athletes, Coach Harnden has learned that identifying a finishing point and working backward to plan the phases of training is the best way to ensure a successful season. This course will walk you through the phases Coach Harnden uses to create his season training blueprint step-by-step. Including:
- Phase One – Training to Train
- Phase Two – Begin Sprint Specific Training
- Phase Three – Speed Training
- Phase Four – Athlete Specific Training
- Phase Five – Pre Competition/Competition Training
- Phase Six – Recovery Phase
Along with purposeful, well-planned training, there are overarching principles that influence the structure of a season. You’ll learn the concepts of speed training such as periodization, overload, variation and continuity as well as many other topics that Coach Harnden has identified as crucial to achieving success in sprinting.
